Membership FAQs

Sudbury Swim & Tennis Membership FAQs

How long will it take to get into the club?

  • It is approximately a 3 year wait for membership.

What is included in membership at SS&T?

  • With your membership, you will have access to the pool, tennis courts, swim lessons, tennis lessons, adult fitness, adult tennis, masters swim, volleyball, child/adult/family social events and much more. All of these events are included in your annual membership fee while the tennis and swim teams are available for a small additional fee.

How do I use my annual complimentary visits to the club? (Waitlist families can enjoy our Club twice per season while on the waitlist)

  • No advance notice is necessary, please just come to the club and enjoy it (black-out dates are holidays and the last day of school for SPS). Sign in at the front desk and please be aware of our club rules. Note that you may not bring guests when using your annual complimentary visits.

I have moved out of Sudbury; do I get my $200 waitlist registration fee returned?

  • No, that fee is non-refundable. But while you were still a resident of Sudbury I hope you took advantage of your annual complimentary visit(s).

What is the difference between the Annual Dues and the Initiation Fee?

  • The annual dues are the yearly cost every family is charged. It includes all the above-mentioned activities. The initiation fee is the one-time fee charged to new families as they are offered a senior membership. This fee is refundable once your senior membership spot is replaced by a new senior membership. Rental memberships do not have to pay an initiation fee.

What is the difference between a Senior Membership and a Seasonal Rental?

  • We have 210 senior membership spots for 210 families. Each year, some of those 210 families choose to ‘rent out’ their membership and those spots are then filled by waitlist families ‘renting in’ for the summer. Seasonal rentals have all the privileges of senior memberships over the summer but cannot vote on club issues and are not guaranteed a senior membership the next year.  Seasonal rental families pay the same annual dues as senior membership families but do not pay the initiation fee.

I have stopped receiving communication from SS&T, why is that?

  • While on our waitlist and then as a member, it is your responsibility to ensure we have up-to-date contact information for you. Please email the membership director at membership@ssandtclub.org to keep your email, phone and address information accurate. Also, join our Facebook page at Friends of Sudbury Swim and Tennis for updates. It is critical that SS&T can get a hold of you with reasonable efforts. If we cannot reasonably get a hold of you, it may result in losing your spot on our waitlist.

Why are some neighbors of mine still on the waitlist at #20 or #30 and have told me that they got in this year?

  • While we have 210 families as members of the club, some families choose to ‘rent out’ their memberships for a summer. Those membership spots are then ‘rented in’ by families on our waitlist. Not all families on the waitlist who are offered rental spots take us up on that offer. That is why a family at waitlist position #20 may be at the club for the summer under a seasonal rental but a family at waitlist position #10 may continue to be wait-listed.

Within a family, who is the Senior Member?

  • Each family membership has only one senior member while the rest of the family members are associate members. The senior member is the adult who signed the membership contract and the adult who can vote each year. When signing up to be waitlisted, the family member who is listed as a senior member applicant has the legal rights to that waitlist position.

I have been on the waitlist at SS&T for several years and now only have a few days to tell you if I want to accept membership or not. Is that true?

  • Yes and No. Those families who are at the top of the waitlist are given several months of notice by ‘heads up’ emails that they may be offered a membership spot for the following year. Once a spot is officially offered, then yes, we would like a verbal commitment from you ASAP! We legally must wait for payment for 30 days from the time membership is offered. When seasonal rentals become available (mid-February or March), then time is of the essence to fill all the open spots by summer, so we do push to get commitments as quickly as possible.

Why am I only given 30 days to come up with a large amount of money to pay my initiation and dues?

  • The first year of becoming a senior member, you are required to pay both the initiation fee and the annual dues. Those two notifications of payment do not always come at the same time. Our annual dues are due in February while the initiation fee is due within 30 days of being offered a membership. New membership offers are given between September and February. So, yes, sometimes a family may owe both fees in February. Again, communication is sent out to those families at the top of the waitlist months in advance to expect these charges. We cannot offer payment plans or defer payments so please plan accordingly.

I was offered a Seasonal Rental but do not think it fit my family’s schedule this summer, what happens then?

  • Nothing, your family stays at the waitlist position for the following year.

I was offered a Senior Membership but do not think it fit my family’s schedule this summer, what happens then?

  • Once a senior membership is offered, you are obligated to either accept or reject the membership offer. If you reject the membership offer, you are then removed from the waitlist. Every effort is given to have those families at the top of our waitlist be aware of pending membership offers months in advance.

I have a nanny. Can he/she come to the pool every day with my kids? What if my nanny had kids of his/her own?

  • Yes, you may sign up one nanny who must be at least the age of 14 for a fee of $100 per year. The child(ren) of nannies who are under two years of age may attend the club but are not allowed to participate in any of our programs offered for members’ kids and are considered guests. Children of nannies two years of age or older may not attend the club on a regular basis, must follow our guest policy and must pay the guest fees. Occasional babysitters are considered guests and daily fees would apply.

My mother lives with me. Can she attend the club?

  • Family memberships are determined by who lives in a household. So, yes, your mother or relative can attend if they regularly reside in your family’s residence.

How many guests can I bring and how much does it cost?

  • You may not bring more than four guests per day without a seven-day advanced notice and approval from the pool director. Guest fees are $10 per guest regardless of day or time or age of your guest. The member must be there when guests arrive and sign them in at the front desk and ENSURE that all guests are aware of our club rules. Guests who reside in Sudbury may not be a guest at the club more than once a week for adults or twice a week for those under 18.

How do I pay for my guest fees?

  • Guest fees are billed after the club closes in the fall and are payable within 30 days.

I have family visiting for a week. Can they attend the club every day?

  • Members are allowed to bring houseguests to the club as guests. A houseguest is someone who resides outside of Sudbury and is temporarily staying at the member’s home overnight. The member is required to sign in the houseguest under the same guest policies stated above and pay the same guest fees. The only difference is they are not limited to one or two visits per week.

I have many, many more questions, where do I go?
